President's Entry - September

Post date: Sep 24, 2013 2:25:55 AM

If you missed our August meeting, you missed an inspiring presentation by Paula Davis-Laack on Bouncing Back from Burnout. The attendance of many current members, new members and guests at the meeting showed how crucial and timely this topic was. For more from Paula, please visit her website at www.pauladavislaack.com.

The 2013 Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance Annual Conference is being held October 20-23 in Indianapolis, IN, the home of the first chapter. The organization’s 75th Anniversary will be celebrated at the conference, and will offer networking with other accounting and financial professionals, numerous fun events, and up to 24 CPE credits. Because it is within driving distance this year, we are hoping to have good attendance from our chapter. We are planning to have carpools going, and if you would like to share a room with another chapter member to save costs, we can try to put you in contact with someone else who is interested in sharing a room. There are also some limited chapter funds available to help offset a portion of the registration cost for members. Because both the early bird registration and the discounted hotel rates are only good through September 27, we would like to have this finalized before our next meeting. If you are interested in carpooling, or sharing a room, please let me know at president@milwaukeeafwa.org by September 19. For more information, please go to www.afwa.org, where you can see a preliminary listing of events. I attended last year’s conference, and recommend it highly! It’s energizing being around all of the talented and inspiring women who attend.

As if that wasn’t enough for October, our chapter’s Student Night will be held on Thursday, October 17, beginning at 5:30. We will be raffling off CPA review courses for the students, as well as gift cards and other prizes (for those of us who don’t want to re-live our CPA review course days). We will be having a panel discussion on accounting and finance careers, which should be very helpful to students as well as anyone considering the next step in their career. Please watch for the invitations coming out to this event.

Please mark your calendar for our next regular meeting on September 24. Our topic will be the new Repair Regulations, which will affect virtually every existing business, from a tax as well as an accounting perspective. Networking starts at 5:30, with dinner at 6:00 and the speaker at 7:00. Our business meeting will follow at 8:00. Please be sure to attend!
